A high level executive of a multinational corporation or an essential employee may apply for L nonimmigrant status. The primary purpose of the L visa category is to allow corporations with offices in the United States to transfer employees to the United States to continue running operations or begin new ones. The multinational corporation must have offices abroad and in the United States. The entire time that an L nonimmigrant visa holder is in the United States, the parent company must maintain an office abroad as well. Furthermore, an applicant must be someone that has worked at the corporation for at least a year and hold a managerial role, executive role, or hold specialized knowledge.
